Columnist / Contributor
December 2010 – December 2011
The Sarasota Herald-Tribune has served as the major daily newspaper covering the Suncoast of Florida (south Tampa Bay to Fort Myers) since its founding as the Sarasota Herald in 1925.
I wrote as a freelance columnist and contributor for the paper’s Ticket A&E weekly, after my previous employer Creative Loafing Sarasota was shuttered and absorbed by the Herald-Tribune.
The Ticket editors agreed to bring on my long-running column “The Local Original,” covering a burgeoning original music scene that was exploding with talent in Sarasota at that time. I also contributed weekly event previews, album and concert reviews, and arts-related news.
This tight-knit community of infinitely creative musicians formed no fewer than two dozen absolutely mind-blowing bands to watch live, and the crowds they drew in support proved it.
I was also involved in a promotion operation succinctly named Sarasota Music Scene, which produced a two-disk compilation album and accompanying CD release festival called Noise Ordinance for three consecutive years.
